The Grid: Gaudi

Dates: 2006-2008

Description

I have always loved the work of Antonio Gaudi, an architect working in Barcelona in the late 19th Century. I was fortunate to be able to travel to Barcelona in 2005 and photograph his work. Gaudi completed many buildings and parks in Barcelona, but his most famous piece, the Cathedral of Sagrada Familia, is still under construction. Gaudi’s works are complex, fanciful, colorful and organic. Some of my photographic constructions emphasize the curvilinear and rhythmic nature of his work; others focus on the monumental scale and visual dominance of his sculpture; while others seek to capture the organic nature of his hillsides and parks.
